"Pilot, what was that?" John Crichton asked, confused, as a great shiver went through Moya.
The face of Pilot appeared at the clamshell viewer in Command.
"We are not sure, Commander," he said.
D'Argo, Chiana, Zhaan and Rygel joined John and Aeryn in Command.
"What happened?" they asked in unison.
"Commander, a vessel appeared after that disturbance.”
"A vessel? Is someone aboard?" Aeryn asked.
"Yes. It seems to be a Sebacean ."
The crew looked at each other.
"Peacekeeper?" Chianna asked.
"Maybe." John answered unsure.
Aeryn cocked her head her head. "I don't believe so. Peacekeepers do not fly such vessels," she said.
"Pilot, use the docking web to bring it aboard," John said.
D'Argo and Aeryn looked worriedly at John.
"Do you think that is a good idea?" D'Argo asked.
"Maybe. We´ll find out."
------------------
Together they hurried towards the docking bay.
Aeryn, D'Argo and Chiana aimed their guns at the ship. John cautiously opened the door.
"Zhaan, hurry! She is unconscious!" John shouted. He rolled the woman on the back and took a deep breath. He could have sworn that this woman was Aeryn; the same pretty face, the long, raven black hair. This woman may have had a few wrinkles and wore a long red dress, but it was definitely his Aeryn.
Zhaan knelt beside him and he met her surprised gaze.
"She looks like Aeryn."
"You tell me," John answered.
Zhaan examined the woman´s carefully.
"She is alive. I think she will awaken soon. We need to bring her to the infirmary," Zhann said with a relieved smile.
"I will carry her," John said and took her in his arms.
When D'Argo and Aeryn saw John's burden they were stunned.
"Who is she?" D'Argo asked.
"I would say it's Aeryn but this is impossible." John replied. We´ll have to be patient until she wakes up. D'Argo, could you and Chiana have a look in the ship? Maybe we will find some answers."
"Of course," D'Argo answered.
John carried the woman to the infirmary, followed by Zhaan and Aeryn. He laid her down on the table and Zhaan began to run a few tests. Aeryn didn't know what to think. This woman looked exactly like her. Well, she seemed to be a little bit older but ....
She looked over to John, who was staring at the woman before him. And suddenly she felt a little stab of jealousy.
"Her unconsciousness is the result of some kind of systemic trauma. Still, give her a little time and she will awaken soon," Zhaan said.
The woman moaned and opened her eyes. She sat up immediately. "Where am I?" she asked. She gasped as she faced Zhaan.
"What the hezmana is going on here? You are dead!" she shouted before she quickly got off the table. Moving backwards, she collided with John, who hadn't moved. The woman turned immediately and her face went pale. "John ...." she said, then she collapsed.
John caught her as she fell and laid her on the table again.
"Well," he said, "that was really interesting."
"I have the test results," Zhaan said in the deep silence.
A short time later.
"This woman is Aeryn Sun. They share the same DNA but she is much older. This Aeryn is over 90 cycles old."
Aeryn gasped. "Over 90 cycles? I never expected to live that long. How is it possible that this is me anyway?" Aeryn asked puzzled.
"Maybe it was this shiver that Moya experienced? Maybe it was a time rift? Or ... I don't know," John ended lamely.
The woman woke up again. This time she seemed much calmer. She sat up and looked worried at them. "I don't know what game you are playing here but bringing dead people and my younger self to me will not help you," she said sternly. John met Aeryn's gaze and decided to speak first. "Well, actually we had hoped you could give us a few answers. For starters, who are you and where did you come from?"
The woman gave him a small smile. "I'm Aeryn Sun. And I was on my way back to Moya. But who are you?"
Aeryn took a few steps towards her. "You are on Moya. We will not harm you. You are at the right destination it just seems to be the wrong time," she added.
The older Aeryn looked surprised. "How old are you?" she asked Aeryn.
"I'm 30 cycles old and you?"
"I hardly can remember that I was that young. I'm 98 cycles old." The older Aeryn laughed.
"I can't see the funny side of this but ...." John said.
The older Aeryn looked at him. "Oh. It is funny believe me. You should be able to see your faces. But you are right. I need to go back to my time. This is not my place," she said sadly.
"Well, we don't know how you came here but we will try to find a way back. I promise. If you feel well enough, we can show you your quarters." John looked to Zhaan, who nodded.
"Yeah, that would be fine, John," the older Aeryn said.
She followed John and Aeryn out of the room.
This is really strange, she thought, to see myself with my mate. I miss him. To see John Crichton alive really shocked me. He is so young and strong. Thelast time I saw him was 10 cycles ago. It's good to see him again but will I be strong enough to lose him again? John's voice caught her attention.
"Well, here we are. Make yourself at home. I mean you are at home. I mean ... you know what I mean," he said.
The older Aeryn smiled. "It's okay John. I know what you mean. And you two don't have to look after me, okay? I'm not a child," she said before she went through the door and closed it before them.
Aeryn and John went back to Command. D'Argo and Chiana were already waiting there.
"Have you found something?" John asked.
"We have, but I'm not certain what to make of it." He handed a small device to John. "It contains several images. Push the buttons on it to view them."
John pressed the first button and a picture with a laughing Aeryn and John appeared before him. They were gazing into each other´s eyes. John wore a black suit and Aeryn was wearing a white dress. It almost looked like a wedding dress. He pressed the next button and was more surprised than before. He saw his father standing next to Aeryn and holding a little girl in his arms. The next pictures showed Aeryn, John, the little girl, John`s father, and a young boy.
"Wow," was all John could say.
He was really stunned. His father and Aeryn on the same picture could just mean one thing. He had found Earth. He couldn't believe it. Aeryn was silent.
Suddenly they heard a voice from the doorway. "John took photo after photo. I never really understood this Earth thing to photograph everything. But I'm glad he made them," the older Aeryn said.
D'Argo and Chiana turned towards her. "You are an older Aeryn?" they asked.
"Yeah. I'm coming from over 60 cycles in the future," she said.
John looked at her. "I have found Earth. Haven't I?" he asked excitedly.
The older Aeryn walked towards them.
"Yes, you have. You have found a way to travel to Earth. Well, kind of," she smiled.
"But when ... I mean how..." he asked breathless.
"It's not good to know that much about his future, believe me. Maybe you would change it," the older Aeryn said.
Chiana's gaze wandered between the two Aeryns´and John.
"D'Argo, I need your help on tier 23. Pilot has a problem with his...." Chiana said, and took D'Argo's hand. Together they left the room. The older Aeryn watched them and shook her head slightly.
"Chiana is the same as ever. I wonder if she has changed in these last cycles, but I don't believe so."
Aeryn, John and the older Aeryn sat down at the table.
"Do you have something to drink?" she asked. "I could use a raslak." John left the two alone to get the drinks.
Aeryn looked at her other self. "Well, I never expected to live as long as you will." she said.
"You wouldn't have expected a lot of things that have happened, I can tell you."
"So, John have found Earth, hmm?" Aeryn asked nervously.
"Yes. He found Earth but he came back with me."
Aeryn met her gaze with surprise. "Really. I would have thought he would stay."
"I know, but he stayed with me. I won't live on Earth and he knew it. But we visited Earth often. Our children went to school there, too."
"Children?" Aeryn almost shouted.
The older Aeryn laughed. "Two, actually, a girl and a boy. They are wonderful. I adore them. I never expected to be a mother, but I made it. No, we made it," she ended quickly as John returned with three glasses and a bottle of raslak.
"So, maybe you can answer some of my questions. We already saw the pictures, so...."
"Go on. I'm not getting younger here," she said.
"Well, I have found Earth, and you and I ... we have ...?"
"Married?"
"Yes. Have we married?" he asked.
"Yes, we have. But it was a long way, believe me," she said.
"And we have kids, right?"
"Yes, a boy and a girl. Jake and Tara. They are much like you." Aeryn cleared her throat. "I will not spoil this moment but how can we bring you back to your time?" she asked.
"Oh, don't worry. I will be found and returned soon. This isn't the first time travel for me," the older Aeryn said.
"Should I explain some of the pictures for you?"
Aeryn and John nodded.
"Well the first one shows John and me on our wedding day. He persisted on what he called an old-fashioned marriage. We married on Earth, with our friends and his father as our guests. And this one shows Jack, Tara and me. Jack adores his grandchildren. He never cared about having half-alien grandchildren or having a Sebacean daughter-in-law. And this one is a family picture."
John and Aeryn looked uncertainly at each other. They knew there was a attraction to each other but being married and having kids really shocked them. "And you two were happy?" John asked.
"Yeah. But I won't fool you. You have good times and bad times ahead of you. There are pretty bad times but also really good ones. You two never gave up. You will have a lot of fights for your happiness. There will be a lot tears, some of joy and some of sadness, but also laughter. And a lot of love. But your way will be rocky. But no matter what happened you never gave up your hope," she ended.
Suddenly a light ray appeared in the room and a man stood before them. Aeryn and John jumped from their chairs and raised their weapons, but the older Aeryn just hugged the man.
"I think you own me one, Mum. The next time I get into trouble, you just save your comments about me being a 'typical human'." Jake Sun-Chrichton said. The older Aeryn laughed and nodded.
Then the two of them turned to face Aeryn and John.
"I told you they would find me. This is my son."
"It's good to see you again, Dad," Jake said.
Neither Aeryn or John could say a word. They just lowered their weapons. The older Aeryn went to John.
"Thank you for trusting me." She looked him deeply in the eyes before she raised a hand to his neck to pull him towards her.
Before John could react, she kissed him (and boy was that a kiss). They separated and Aeryn whispered "I love you. Never forget it." And then she and Jake disappeared in another light ray.
Arns later
Aeryn sat on the terrace. She was overwhelmed by this day.
First, she finds out that she and John Crichton will be married. She marries a non-Sebacean. And they have children together.
The door opened behind her and John came out onto the terrace. "You want company?" he asked.
Aeryn just shrugged her shoulders.
"I had a lot time to think and I came to conclusion. You want to hear it?"
"Maybe," she said.
"Well. I think we shouldn't interpret too much into this event. Maybe this isn't our future. But wouldn't it be nice if it were our future?"
"John ... I ...."
He stopped her by putting an arm around her shoulders.
"No, it's okay, Aeryn. We won't push something here. We will take things as they are, and carry on with our lives, and maybe one day we will be together, but not now. Now, we are friends, shipmates, and maybe a little bit more." He faced her and gave her a tender kiss.
Aeryn relaxed in his arms and lay her head on his shoulder. Together, they watched the stars.
"We will see what the future may hold in store, Aeryn. We will see," John whispered in her ear.
The stars threw their light at the two lovers on the terrace, covering their fears, thoughts and hopes in a loving embrace.
