Insurrection Part 9: The Battle of Geda Prime
The PeaceKeepers exited their Marauders quickly and formed review lines.
They were all dressed in their full body armor. 3 Lieutenants roamed
between the lines. "The enemy is a force of Urvidians and Sebasceans, they
just destroyed our weapons factory, and killed many of our officers", said
the senior Lieutenant. "We will break into units by ship, and proceed into
the forest", he continued. "Keep your wits about you, the enemy can come
from anywhere". The Marauders took off and flew away, but a modified
marauder hovered over head. The first 10-man unit hit the forest.
After a minute, a blue disc shot up. The group hit the deck, but the
shrapnel killed the closest and wounded two others. "The woods are
trapped!" said a Lieutenant over his comm. Just then 3 Urvidians opened
fire with their compression rifles. Two PKs were instantly killed, but the
expert soldiers quickly got to cover and began to return fire. A pair
crawled quickly through the grass under cover fire. One of them stood up,
and ran in the trees. He hit a trip wire and a hidden grenade exploded. The
other smartly stayed on the ground crawling to flank the Urvidians. One of
the PeaceKeepers with a new pulse rifle used the explosive blast setting
and hit the log a Urvidian was using for cover. The explosion sent the
Urvidian through the air. The PeaceKeepers slowly advanced, using their
superior firepower to pin down the enemy. They could only momentarily make
an unaimed shot before the red blasts would hit their cover, forcing them
to cower again. The flanking PeaceKeeper jumped on top of a log and fired
with the rapid setting. The blasts killed one and wounded the other
severely. The Urvidian managed to raise his rifle and kill the PeaceKeeper
with a headshot. He began to over charge his rifle. It hummed loud. He drew
his pistol as the PeaceKeepers jumped the log. The Lieutenant fired from
behind killing him. The others gathered around the LT. as he began to give
new orders. Suddenly the explosion erupted from the rifle killing all the
PeaceKeepers in a blue firestorm.
All the fighters on the island looked at the below of smoke coming from the
east side. Tralk's voice came over the comm. "D'argo, get some of your men
over to the east defensive area", ordered Tralk. "Tanga, Bartok, Anjon go!"
he ordered.
At the same time, another PK unit was taking on 4 Urvidians in a much more
defensible position. The Urvidians had a large multi-barreled energy weapon
firing rapidly at the PeaceKeepers. 2 PeaceKeepers lay dead. A barley
visible blue defense screen protected the gunner. The rest fired rifles.
The senior LT. rolled behind a boulder and opened his comm. "Nas to gun
ship! Nas to gun ship!, I need an air strike at the North East side!". The
modified marauder, which was larger, quickly appeared over head. A door
slid open and a PeaceKeeper sat behind a mini gun like energy weapon.
Another had a 4-barreled rocket launcher. A rocket flew, impacting on the
D.S. the explosion wiped out the entire group. The gun ship then flew off
to the camp. D'argo looked up at it. It launched another rocket destroying
the comm. tent. It closed on the tent where Chiana and the wounded were.
"Chiana, get out of there!" yelled D'argo. She helped the others out as the
limped out of tent. A rocket flew, hitting the tent. The explosion knocked
the trio down. The energy weapon focused on them. "Go!" said one of the
wounded. Chiana ran as the energy weapon came to life. The blast began to
cut threw them, and then began to chase Chiana. The blasts nipped at her
heels. A Skykarian used the explosive blast of his rifle. The explosion
knocked the gun off its aim and Chiana jumped into the woods. The others
followed her lead.
Suddenly, Tralk and 2 other Urvidians ran up. "We got about 20 Peace
Keepers coming this way, follow me", he said running by. The group quickly
ran through the woods to a clearing with burn marks around it. A large
metallic object about 100 yards long was at the end of trail of fallen
trees. It was a ship. Tralk opened the large black hatch and motioned for
the others to get in. Then he jumped into the ship and closed the large
automatic hatch. While the others rested he punched a few buttons on a
console, the lights came on. Then they heard a great number of footsteps
over head.
Crichton looked at the 2 battle cruisers and 5 frigates orbiting the
planet. He was thinking how to get D'argo and the rest. There were too many
ships. Aeryn entered the bridge with 2 ration packs; she gave one to him.
"We can't do it Aeryn", he said. Suddenly Tak's sensor station beeped.
"Sir, I have 5 contacts, unknown ship configuration", said Tak. The
Urvidian ships resembled Star Fox's fighter (triangles with wings almost
separated from the body)
The PeaceKeeper's D.S. went up as they turned to fight the new arrivals.
Blue compression beams flew from a great range, hitting a frigate in the
front. It's D.S. failed after several hits and it exploded. The frigates
finally entered range and frag cannon blasts began to impact on the barley
visible D.S. A missile flew from a Urvidian ship, impacting on a frigate,
bringing down its D.S. Crichton saw that the battle cruisers had their D.S.
on full front leaving their engines vulnerable. "Aeryn, bring us behind
those battle cruisers. He hit the red alert Klaxon and charged all weapons.
The Bird of Prey faded into view; its D.S. raised as it fired two ion
torpedoes in separate directions. They both hit the engines of the battle
cruisers, crippling them. The blue particle cannons, turned and fired,
destroying the unprotected frigate's core, destroying it. The Freedom
cloaked as it flew over the cruisers. "Get me a channel to one of those
ships", ordered Crichton.
A Urvidian appeared on the screen. "I don't have time to explain, just back
away from the cruisers, we crippled their engines", said Crichton cutting
off. "It's the stealth renegade!" said a Urvidian crew member. The ships
quickly reversed out of range. One was badly damaged. "Frigate targeting
our core!" said the Urvidian weapons officer. The frigate's turrets turned
to fire. Suddenly the Freedom decloaked, firing full disrupters at the
Frigates core. The bolts quickly penetrated and detonated the core. Without
the massive firepower of the cruisers, the frigates were no match for the
Freedom and Urvidians and were quickly destroyed. The Urvidians used their
superior range to widdle down the cruisers' D.S. Then the Freedom launched
torpedoes at both their cores. They both slowly exploded.
Anjon, Tanga, and Bartok fled the marauder gun ship. The remaining
PeaceKeepers followed on the ground. The group was trapped between the
ravine and the PKs. Suddenly a green blast flew, hitting the marauder,
destroying it. The Freedom flew over and fired another disrupter which
exploded like an artillery shell in the middle of the PeaceKeepers. 6
PeaceKeepers were left. The disrupter cannon pointed at them. The
PeaceKeepers began to through down their weapons.
Aeryn walked with her father underneath the night sky. They both had their
hands behind their backs. She had forged orders from Crichton so she could
take her father out for exercise. "I have something to tell you", said Sun.
"I have Orin's syndrome" he added. "You're dying?" she asked. He grabbed
the vital organ on his side. When she let her guard down he back fisted
her, knocking her out. He dragged her over to one of the prowlers on the
airfield.
The group of Urvidians and rebels put their guns down. "I am sorry about
your friend, but we had to defend ourselves", said D'argo. Tralk nodded. "I
am sorry for your men", he replied. "Were going to half to work together to
defeat the PeaceKeepers", said D'argo. "I agree, besides a group of our
ships should be here soon, its our entire force in this area, were are
going to try to destroy the weapons facility but I don't believe our ships
are a match for it", said Tralk. "You don't have to worry, we destroyed the
station an arn ago", said Anjon. "How many ships did it take?" asked Tralk.
"Just one, a PeaceKeeper frigate, we planted a bomb on board before we left
and booom!" said Anjon. Tralk turned to D'argo. "Sir, we can talk later, we
have business to take care of first", said Tralk. "Move your men into this
grassy area, we have crates in there for cover, and keep your troops within
20 metras of camp, were arming the traps", said Tralk. "What's your name
anyway?" asked Tralk. "Ka D'argo", he said. Tralk handed him a walky-talky.
"Good luck", Tralk said as he issued orders.
